Thursday, January 24th at Crescent View Middle School in Sandy
1st Annual State-wide School Community Council Conference with a Keynote by Mark Shurtleff
There has been significant interest in giving School Community Council members an opportunity network with members from other districts. Education leaders and school community council members have come together to organize this opportunity.
In addition to Mark Shurtleff's keynote address, we will have a panel discussion with education leaders from around the state on the future of School Community Councils. Breakout sessions will include Effective Plans, Parent Engagement, Roles, Compliance, Understanding and Accessing Data, and Effective Councils and will be taught by presenters including Margaret Bird and staff from USOE, Kim Campbell and staff from the Center for the School of the Future at Utah State University, Barbara Smith from the Utah Family Partnership Network, and district and school level leaders from around the state. This will be a hands-on event with built in chances to share best practices and learn from each other. There will also be an opportunity to give key legislators input on future School Community Council legislation.
We encourage all schools to identify a team to attend this exciting new venue for a quality networking and learning experience.

School Community Council Conference POSTPONED
Due to the winter storm predicted for Friday, November 9th, we have decided to postpone the School Community Council Conference scheduled that day in Park City until Thursday, January 24th. We are very excited about the enthusiasm around the conference, but are not willing to put our presenters or attendees in harm’s way. Please distribute this message in every way that you can. We do have some concern about those who may decide to show up at the door without having pre-registered. Any registration fees that have been pre-paid will be reimbursed
Thank you for your help with this effort. We look forward to seeing everyone in January.
